Communications Officer – CO – (Level 6) -1, Knowledge Management and Capacity Building for Wider Impacts (KMC), Head Office (Frequent travel to LI-BIRD sites)
Job Summary: The Communications Officer shall report to KMC Coordinator and take lead in pre-and post-production work of LI-BIRD and partners’ audio, video and print media outputs. The position requires creativity, innovativeness and ability to work effectively in team.
Key Responsibilties and tasks:
1) Print Media
- Layout, Design and Publishing different publications and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials as per LI-BIRD and partners publication specification
- Coordinate with project staffs and partners to produce and publish different publications and IEC materials (Like: Book, booklet, newsletter, poster, report, manual, brochure, flyer, flip chart, billboards etc.) as per need
- Maintain standard branding and quality of LI-BIRD
2) Audio-Video Media
- Coordinate production of Weekly Radio Programme 'LI-BIRDko Chautari' and topical Podcasts
- Collect and compile stories for Radio Magazine ‘LI-BIRDko Chautari’;
- Work closely with KMC Coordinator and Radio Taranga for high quality production of weekly radio programme ‘LI-BIRDko Chautari’;
- Work closely with the correspondent and programme producer of Radio Taranga;
- Regular follow up with field staffs for news and stories;
- Frequent travel to project sites to produce 'Human Interest Stories';
- Archiving the materials collected for ‘LI-BIRDko Chautari’;
- Organize and Coordinate the tri-monthly meeting for ‘LI-BIRDko Chautari’ and keep proper record of meeting minutes; and implement decisions accordingly.
- Pre-production and post production of LI-BIRD Videos (Documentaries, Docudrama, PSAs, Promotional Videos)
- Work closely with KMC Coordinator and project team for high quality production of videos;
- Frequent travel to project sites for producing/documenting 'Human Interest Stories';
- Proper archiving of the videos and photographs collected from field;
3) Web and Social Media
- Generating contents for web/blog of LI-BIRD
- Work closely with the KMC Coordinator and project team to develop high quality blog posts and photo stories;
- Frequent travel to project sites for documenting/compiling 'Human Interest Stories'
- Update and maintain LI-BIRD website and social sites (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube) in regular basis
- Share podcasts, publications and information through social networking and media sharing sites, including Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
4) Outreach and Communications Support
- Publication distribution and exchange with different partners, donors, stakeholders, organizations;
- Issue and assist in handling equipments (camera, multimedia, GPS, audio recorder etc.);
- Support/Assist KMC Coordinator in organizing events as and when required.
5) Administrative Assistance and Event Management
- Ensure timely assistance on administrative matters including financial management, human resource management and staff performance evaluation.
- Contribute to projects of LI-BIRD as and when required and as instructed by supervisor or Programme Coordinator.
6) External Relations and Partnerships
- Help in maintaining congenial working relations with other CBOs, I/NGOs and GOs, Media House, Printing Press etc.
- In consultation with the senior management team, liaise with mass Medias on effective communication.
- Assist to build the communication capacities of selected LI-BIRD partner organizations by providing relevant advice and guidance in close coordination with the project team.
- Represent LI-BIRD in different forums as per job requirement.
Competencies and Personal Specification:
- Efficient in using Print, Web and Audio-Video Tools: Adobe Creative Suits (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Audition), web-based applications
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP and photography skills will be added advantage;
- Excellent communication, networking, and inter-personal skills;
- Innovative and creative thinking in relation to communication,
- Proven excellence in writing and editing skills in Nepali and English;
- Proactiveness and ability to solve problems;
- Team player and personal relation management
- Independent professional to contribute to the overall goal of the LI-BIRD;
- Flexible, willing to share information and to take up various tasks done in a small group and office;
- Capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment;
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure;
- Willingness to travel fields to collect compile and document success stories.
Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree in relevant field (Mass Communication, Development Communication, Media Studies etc.). with 2 years experience in relevant field.
